5A02 thin-walled aluminum tube coarse grain
5A02 alloy thin-walled pipes for aircraft fuel systems are in annealed state. The product requires a tensile strength of 155N/mm2~225N/mm2 and an elongation of 15%. During the processing of some products, the "orange peel" phenomenon has appeared at the bend. The reason is due to the coarse grains of the pipe.
Cause
Too slow cooling rate: When the aluminum alloy solidifies, if the cooling rate is too slow, it is easy to cause the grains to grow and form coarse crystals. Especially in thinner pipes, uneven cooling will aggravate this phenomenon.
Too high pouring temperature: If the pouring temperature of the aluminum alloy is too high during casting or extrusion, it will cause the grains to grow and form coarse crystals after cooling.
Improper deformation process: In drawing, extrusion or other deformation processes, if the process parameters are not effectively controlled (such as too high deformation temperature or inappropriate deformation speed), it is easy to cause coarse crystal phenomenon.
Improper annealing treatment: Excessive annealing treatment will cause the grains to grow again, especially if the annealing temperature is too high or the holding time is too long, it is easy to produce a coarse crystal structure.
Influence of alloy composition: The magnesium content in 5A02 aluminum alloy is low. In some cases, if the impurity content is too high or the composition is uneven, it will also cause abnormal grain growth.
Optimization plan
The best way to ensure the fine grain size of 5A02 aluminum alloy thin-walled pipes is to produce them by rolling.
When rolling conditions are not available and the 5A02 alloy pipes are produced by stretching, high temperature and short time annealing process can be used to inhibit the growth rate of grains and refine the grains.
The finished product annealing process uses (440~470)℃ and heat preservation (10~30)min, the grain size is the best, and the performance meets the use requirements.
