Characteristics of 7A09 aluminum bar rod
- Good plasticity after solid solution treatment, and significant strengthening effect of heat treatment
- High strength below 150℃, especially good low temperature strength
- Poor welding performance
- There is a tendency for stress corrosion cracking and aluminum cladding or other protective treatments are required.

Formability
7A09 aluminum bar has good formability in annealing and solution treatment state, but its formability decreases after artificial aging. The fracture toughness is satisfactory in T6 state, the stress corrosion cracking resistance is excellent in T73 over-aging state, T76 has high exfoliation corrosion resistance, and T74 has both high strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance.
Tensile strength
The tensile strength of 7A09 aluminum rod is higher than that of 2A12 and 2A14 aluminum alloys, and it has higher resistance to stress corrosion cracking. It is suitable for manufacturing aircraft parts and has higher weight reduction effect and safety, but its fatigue strength has not been improved simultaneously.
Temperature effect
The strength of 7A09 aluminum rod decreases rapidly when the temperature rises, and the working temperature should not exceed 125℃.
Annealing and solution treatment
Incomplete annealing specification: 290℃~320℃, 2h~4h, air cooling
Complete annealing specification: 390℃~430℃, cooling rate ≤30℃/h, air cooling after dropping to ≤200℃
Solution treatment temperature: 460℃~475℃, the temperature of aluminum-clad sheet should be close to the lower limit, and the number of treatments should not exceed 2 times
Melting and casting
Melting temperature: 710℃~750℃
Casting temperature: 710℃~735℃
Melting temperature: 477℃~638℃
T73/T6 state comparison
The fracture toughness in T73 state is higher than that in T6, the crack growth rate is lower, the fatigue strength is better than that in T6, and the thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity are higher.

Anodizing, chemical anti-corrosion treatment and paint coating are used for corrosion protection.
Metallurgical structure
The structure of 7A09 aluminum alloy includes α-Al solid solution and second phase particles. The three types of particles have an impact on the material properties, especially the strengthening effect of aging on the material.
Forging and cutting performance
The forging temperature is 320℃~440℃, and the start forging temperature should be ≤400℃. Too high temperature may cause hot brittleness. After quenching and aging, the 7A09 aluminum alloy has good machinability.
